Ottawa, ON – Eric Duncan, Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, responded to the announcement today by Health Canada ending the discriminatory gay blood ban:
“Finally, after multiple delays Canada is one step closer to ending the longstanding and discriminatory blood ban in this country. While today’s news is welcome news it did not need to take this long. After years of delay, we are still at least 5 months away from this change taking effect.
“Discrimination like this should not take this long to resolve.
“There’s still leadership to be shown to have this easy, simple, and safe change made sooner. We will continue to call on the Liberal government to take action and bring an end of this hurtful and discriminatory practice once and for all.”
