2023 Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

We have good news to help you get your 2022 income tax filing completed!

MP Duncan’s staff and volunteers are delighted to welcome back the volunteer income tax clinic:

• There is no walk in and processing service any longer
• Tax preparation service will only be provided through a scheduled appointment system to drop off paperwork to complete your return
• Your completed return will then be mailed back to you

Please read these important steps and only come to MP Duncan’s office if you have a scheduled appointment.

Who is eligible to receive this free tax preparation service?

In general, you must have a modest income below the limits below, based on your family size:

Family Size Total Family Income
1 person $35,000
2 persons $45,000
3 persons $47,500
4 persons $50,000
More than 4 persons Add $2,500 for each additional person

You are eligible for this service if you have:

  • Simple tax situation; either you have no income or if your income only comes from these sources:
  • Employment
  • Pension
  • Benefits (ie. CPP, Disability, EI, or social assistance)
  • RRSPs
  • Support payments
  • Scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, or grants
  • Interest (under $1,000

You are not eligible for this service if you have:

  • Filed for bankruptcy
  • Self-employed or have employment expenses
  • Business or rental income/expenses
  • Have capital gains or losses
  • Completing a tax return for a deceased person

How to Schedule a Drop Off by Appointment Process

1. We are expecting thousands of appointment requests in the coming weeks, so please be patient with our staff and volunteers.

2. Call MP Eric Duncan’s Constituency office at 1-888-805-2513 (during regular office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm) to book your appointment. You will be asked to provide your name, phone number.

3. Do not visit if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness. Simply call and reschedule your appointment once you are feeling better.

4. Bring your T slips and applicable receipts (rent/property tax/medical receipts etc.), and if possible, print off the information sheet at the bottom of this page.

5. Only arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment. A volunteer will greet you outside and direct you to a station.

6. Fill out the information form (if you hadn’t printed it off and completed already) and it will be reviewed to ensure all necessary info is included.

7. Leave the package with the volunteer who will forward it to someone to be processed and e-filed.

Once e-filed to CRA, your summary will be printed, and all your documents will be mailed back to you through Canada Post, likely within 2-3 weeks.
